Tips for Driving a Manual Car

Today, there are numerous types of vehicles with various features. However, these cars all have one thing in common, namely the gearbox. Indeed, all cars have gearboxes that are either manual or automatic. This equipment allows them to choose the appropriate gear so as not to choke the engine. Let’s learn more about manual gearboxes.

Start Like a Boss

Before you even turn on the ignition, make sure your foot is firmly planted on the clutch pedal and that your gearshift is in “neutral. Even with your foot on the clutch pedal, some gears can be damaged if the transmission is not neutral.

This is a good habit to get into if you want to improve the life of your vehicle and its internal components. So don’t forget to put your foot on the clutch and shift into neutral, it’s a must.

Find the Friction Point

The famous friction point. It’s different on just about every transmission. And of course, with practice, you’ll get better at it. To avoid choking the engine, some beginners are tempted to push the throttle before releasing the clutch.

This technique can be very damaging to the transmission in the long run, as the gears will rub against each other unnecessarily. Doing so will damage the gears and the repair fee is not negligible. Instead, it is advisable to gradually lift the foot off the clutch while gradually depressing the throttle.

You will notice a change in engine noise when the friction point is reached, but don’t panic, this is a normal engine reaction. Continue gradually until the engine is coupled to the transmission.

Change Gears Intelligently

Don’t wait until your engine reaches 4,000 rpm to shift. By shifting ahead of the curve, you’ll reduce wear on your drive train and save fuel. You’ll also enjoy a smooth, natural ride, with no jerky shifts. Driving an automatic vehicle may seem tedious, but with practice, you’ll find that it’s not.
